Let’s Talk about Beer
1
February 19th, 2010Musings, Resources, The Gluten-Free LifeThe one thing I miss the most is beer. I consider myself somewhat of a beer snob, and still discuss the merits of a hefeweizen versus a lager despite not having consumed either in 3 months. A colleague of mine who feels similarly about the beverage enlisted the help of her relative, another celiac, to guide me through the land of gluten-free beers.
Here is what is on the market:
- Bard’s Tale Dragon Gold
- Redbridge
- Lakefront New Grist
- Toleration Ale
- Green’s Discovery Amber
- Greeen’s Quest
- Green’s Endeavor
- St. Peter’s Sorghum Beer
I have tried the Bard’s and New Grist and between the two, I prefer the Bard’s Tale Dragon Gold. It tastes like a solid, well-rounded, lager. New Grist just tastes yeasty to me. I have yet to try Redbridge, but I hear it is watery. I know, I know, you’re wondering why on earth in three months I haven’t gotten around to trying all of them? Well, that’s because I haven’t run into a beer store/deli/grocery store that carries them other than Whole Foods.
In terms of bars, here are two GREAT resources for finding your favorite gluten free beer.
