Gluten Free and the City recipes, reviews, and writing on being gluten-free in New York City

    Hi, I’m Claire.

I was diagnosed with celiac disease in November 2009.  New York City was a great place to become gluten-free.  I loved discovering new gluten-free pizza places, or bars that served gluten-free beer.  And, I wanted to share it with fellow gluten-free New Yorkers.  Gluten-Free and the City was born.  I spent the first year of GFATC experimenting with recipes, researching gluten-free news, and scouting out new gluten-free friendly restaurants.  During that year, I became engaged, and when wedding planning began to get crazy, GFATC took a back seat.

Now, I’m starting a new chapter in my life.  I’ll be based in Vienna for about a year with my husband. I will be gluten-free in a new city.  I’ve decided to take my writing in a more personal direction to document my time in Vienna- you can read about my adventures in the Eastern Kingdom at lavieclaire.tumblr.com

You can still contact me at gfandthecity@gmail.com.

  • Claire,

You have created an amazing, wonderful thing with gfandthecity. I can’t tell you how many times I have talked about gf life with colleagues and friends. I am going to tell them about your blog, and I am going to talk about celiac disease in my intro Anth class this fall.

Stay well, Claire, and a big hug from
    Babs

    • Hi Barbara!

Thank you so much for the kind words. It made my day. I’ve actually just migrated my old blog (at glutenfreeandthecity.tumblr.com) to this self-hosted site. I’m still working on formatting and such, but and glad to hear you like it and am curious how you found it since I’m not “advertising” it yet!

Have you stopped eating gluten? I’d be excited to hear about your lecture about celiac disease in intro Anth. Let me know how it goes!

      Hope all is well,
      Claire
